Preferring intimacy be kept a private matter between two people, Christianity traditionally frowns upon public references to sex. Other religions, practices and peoples have different views. The best known of the exotic systems of beliefs are Tantra and various pagan denominations. Among the lesser-known systems are the beliefs of certain tribes from Papua New Guinea and Africa who feel that semen is akin to godly.

The basic idea behind such beliefs is that semen is a fluid with magic properties that can be used to augment the natural powers of other people. Some pagan circles say that semen contains the power of the male, which can be transferred to female priestesses through sex. Certain rituals include the copulation between a priestess and two or more males in order to "harvest" their semen and increase her powers. Tantra is an esoteric tradition rooted in the religions of India. Tantric sexual practices teach a person how to prolong the act of making love.

Semen as a magic fluid was also a key component in many occult theories and practices in Europe and America. Occult figures (Aleister Crowley, Samael Aun Weor) spoke about the power of sex and its significance in a magic context. Likewise, semen was thought to be a source of power. The occult world actually thought that men should never ejaculate in order to activate and increase their power.

Never ejaculating is definitely proven to be a very bad idea; in fact, modern Christianity believes the build-up of semen (some call this "blue balls") can be like a "poisen" in men (Martin Luther 1522). (See Benefits of the Male Orgasm.) This is why Martin Luther supported marriage for clergy while also supporting and encouraging intimacy between a husband and wife as an important foundation.

If you are not willing, another woman is; if the wife is not willing, bring on the maid. But this only after the husband has told his wife once or twice, warned her, and let it be known to other people that her stubborn refusal may be publicly known and rebuked before the congregation. If she still does not want to comply, then dismiss her; let an Esther be given you and allow Vashti to go, as did King Ahasuerus (Esther 2:17). A few more historical tidbits...

Vedic texts contain references to semen as a form of food. On an esoteric level, the ingestion of semen is a form of eucharist whereby the deity resides in the semen and enters the body of the practitioner. The magical properties of ingesting semen appears in a wide variety of cultural contexts.

In ancient Sumer, the word "abzu" meant both semen and water, where the chief deity Enki was eternally venerated by drinking semen.

In ancient Thrace and Greece it was believed that "the virtues of the lover were transferred to the beloved" through the transmission of the semen which contained [a part of] the essence of the soul..."(Wellesley 1973).

The fertility god Dionysos (Greek Dionusos), whose cult emblem was the erect phallus, was also a god of healing, and his name, when broken down to its original parts, IA-U-NU-ShUSh, meant "semen, seed that saves". (Source: John M. Allegro, The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross)

Rain and semen were seen in the ancient world as the same thing because they both produce fruit.

There's much more; beliefs abound, but it is clear to all that semen is powerful, mystical, mysterious and vital for life.
